Sex and Broadcasting (2014) takes us inside one of the most beloved and unique radio stations left in America - WFMU, in Jersey City, NJ. The film chronicles the station’s rise from a tiny college station at Upsala College, to its place as one of the most important and longest running free-form and listener supported radio stations on the planet. WFMU’s programming ranges from flat-out uncategorizable strange-ness to rock and roll, experimental music, jazz, psychedelia, hip-hop, electronica, hand-cranked wax cylinders, punk rock, gospel, exotica, R&B, radio improvisation, cooking instructions, classic radio airchecks, found sound, dopey call-in shows, spoken word collages, Country and western music.

Station manager Ken Freedman is at the center of a never ending roster of eclectic disc jockeys, on-air personalities, and cultural luminaries who are determined to keep the station alive and flourishing in an era of continued media consolidation and multiple platform options.
